Queensland’s Economic Recovery Accelerates: Eight Key Projects Fast-Tracked

In a significant move to bolster Queensland’s economic recovery, State Development Minister Kate Jones has announced the fast-tracking of eight key projects. The Palaszczuk Government’s initiative aims to create thousands of jobs and leverage over $330 million in private sector investment across the state.

Today’s $66 million capital works announcement marks a pivotal step in Queensland’s Economic Recovery Plan, designed to revitalize the state’s economy in the wake of recent challenges. Minister Jones emphasized the importance of construction in this strategy, highlighting its role as a major driver of economic growth and job creation.

“With the health response under control, we are shifting gears to focus on Queensland’s economic recovery,” stated Minister Jones. “Fast-tracking infrastructure projects is essential to jumpstart our economy and lay the foundation for future growth.”

The accelerated projects encompass a diverse range of developments, each poised to make a significant impact on job creation and investment. Among them are:

  1. Northshore Stage One Waterfront Development: A $7.4 million investment will transform riverfront space into a hub for innovation and creativity, supporting up to 30 construction jobs.
  2. Carseldine Village Development: Civil works for stages two and three of the Carseldine Village project, representing a $17 million investment, will commence within the next year, providing employment for over 50 construction workers.
  3. Lumina at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct: Plans to expand Cohort coworking and innovation space will bolster the burgeoning precinct.
  4. Yeppoon Development: Works on the Capricorn Coast Rail Trail and essential structural upgrades to the heritage rail station will commence shortly.
  5. Roma Student Health Accommodation Precinct: Construction will begin on student accommodation, creating 15 jobs.
  6. Sunshine Coast Industrial Park: Initial bulk earthworks for stage two of the park will commence, facilitating future industrial development.
  7. Yeronga Priority Development Area Development: The construction of a new community center and associated civil works will create 33 construction jobs.
  8. Oxley Priority Development Area Development: Civil works for stage one will commence, supporting 17 construction jobs.

Minister Jones underscored the significant economic impact of these projects, emphasizing their role in job creation, infrastructure development, and economic diversification. “These projects will play a critical role in Queensland’s economic recovery, providing long-term employment opportunities and strengthening our economy,” she stated.

With construction set to commence on multiple fronts, Minister Jones expressed her optimism for the future. “We are committed to providing certainty for the construction industry and propelling Queensland further along the path to economic recovery,” she concluded.
